PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
IN CROATIA

Bus and Train
The international borders surrounding Croatia have changed since many of the tracks were laid, therefore, traveling by rail isn’t the most reliable or easy means of getting from one place to the other.
The Istrian Peninsula and the Southern Dalmatian Coast cannot be accessed by train without crossing an International border. However, the overnight auto-train from Zagreb to Split is useful if you wish to avoid crowded highways when driving to the beautiful coast.
Domestic bus service is recommended. It is reliable and affordable.
A benefit to Students and Retired People is that they ride free.
Taxi
Taxis are available all over Zagreb. You can pick one up at a taxi stand, or order one by phone. They are safe, but cost substantially more than the local bus.
Ferry
Regularly scheduled passenger and car-ferry service is available and connects visitors to the beautiful islands that dot the Adriatic. A hydrofoil is also available. The summer months find the ferries running frequently, but during the winter their schedules are limited.
