Many studies have lauded the French healthcare system. Michael Moore credits it with being the best in his film, “Sicko”. Other expat websites rank it first for quality of care, and the World Health Organization stated that France provides the best overall health care system in the world.
For those relocating to France, immediate membership as one who is qualified to receive complimentary healthcare in France is not available. However, for those in the process of living permanently in the country, there are alternatives.
Private health insurance is recommended when considering the move to France. Medicare is not transferable. French providers and several British companies specialize in medical coverage for expatriates. The cost of expat insurance varies depending on age and medical history, but premiums average $125 per month if you are in good health.
British citizens who are members of their National Health program are covered in France, and throughout the European Union. Just remember to bring the correct health form from your country when you travel to France.
