Travel to Mexico and bring your household goods with you! That's one of the biggest benefits of relocating to this magnificent country that is just across the border!
If you hold an FM-3 or FM-2 visa to Mexico, you can bring your household goods into Mexico duty free.
It is helpful to note that the Mexican voltage for electrical appliances is the same as that in the U.S. and Canada. Your hairdryer, televisions, DVDs and electric shaver will work, but it will take preparation on your part to get them into the country duty-free!
Driving a truckload of your personal effects across the border into Mexico is daunting. You need to time your arrival at the border crossing. Too late in the day means an overnight stop for you, and starting all over again in the morning. Lunchtime also means a wait.
Also be diligent in preparing your paperwork. Make a list of all your belongings that are being brought into the country. If the products have serial numbers, include them along with the brand name. If you have purchase receipts for the items, attach them as well. Don't bring anything new. That will certainly raise the interest of Mexican Customs and the item may be denied entry. It's not worth the risk.

That is why it is suggested that if you are bringing in a large quantity of household goods that you do so with under the auspices of an international moving company. They know the paperwork required and can get the move done without a lot of hassle.
