Located on the Yucatan Peninsula near the Gulf of Mexico, Merida has been named the “Number 2 livable city” in Mexico.  And this is by a vote of Mexican citizens! 

Merida is emerging from its sleepy past and charging into the 21st Century.  Known for its superb educational institutions, its high schools, technical institutes, colleges and universities cater to the over one million population.  And students throng through the city in a constant state of connectivity. Free wireless internet service is in the process of being installed at 50 locations throughout Merida!

With a hint of New Orleans to its personality, Merida’s nearly 1 million occupants are cultured, educated, and sophisticated.  It has a Bohemian feel and a lively street life is constantly passing.

North Americans, Europeans and a splash of Middle Easterners have discovered the delights of Merida.  It was reported by the New York Times that the expats gather at the library on Friday nights to toast their new lives!

Shopping is abundant with two mega malls, and Mexico’s largest mall, the Gran Plaza offers goods at every price.   Theatres, concert halls, the symphony and ballet are also on the schedule of cultural events.
