Living the GOOD LIFE for the REST OF YOUR LIFE!
USING TECHNOLOGY WHEN YOU
TRAVEL TO MEXICO

CELL PHONE SERVICE IN MEXICO:
As complicated as cell phone service is in the United States, it seems that the rest of the world has it down pat. Without getting too technical, here is the most economical way to go when you travel to Mexico and depend on your cell phone for communication:
GSM is a cellular platform used in over 200 countries. It is considered the standard for international cell phones. Some American cell phone companies conform to GSM, others do not. The most advantageous way of using your cell phone abroad is to purchase a GSM cell phone, one that can take a SIM card. Have your phone “unlocked” so that you can insert a foreign SIM card.
When you arrive in Mexico, purchase a pre-paid Mexican SIM card and insert it into your phone. You will then connect to the Mexican cell phone system and your charges for all your calls in Mexico will be as “local”.
An easier way to go if you are spending long periods of time in Mexico is to purchase a “pay as you go” telephone, which is available almost everywhere. The prices are reasonable and some even offer freebies for time purchased.
You will pay less for cell phone service in Mexico than you do in the United States.
SKYPE:
SKYPE is a wonderful system to use if you want to communicate for free, or almost free via your computer and now, your cell phone.
Using your computer microphone, speakers, and a web cam, you can turn your computer into an internet phone, and not only speak, but see each other! Skype-to-Skype calls are free, and they also offer mobile technology at a very reasonable price. If you watch Oprah, you’ll see that she uses Skype all the time for video telephone calls.

TELEVISION:
Satellite television is available throughout Mexico. Many community discussions will revolve around the latest U.S. television programming, so you are never too far out of touch!
As with cell phone technology, the satellite technology in Mexico is far superior to that found in the U.S. What you see and hear on the screen in Mexico is far different, and better, than the programming in the U.S.
Talk to people you meet and ask them what service works best in their area. They are your best resource.
