EDUCATION IN
THAILAND

If children are in your plans when considering a move to Thailand, the transition will be difficult, but not impossible if you focus on language and culture before you make the move.

Plan on hiring a tutor for the children when you arrive at your destination.  The more Thai they learn, the easier the assimilation will be.  Rent videos and books from the library and documentary films to help acquaint them with their new home prior to your departure.

Attending school in Thailand is mandatory for children.  The Thai schools are efficient, but taught in their language.  English is a required second language, but Thai is primary.  Your alternative will be home schooling or an international school, which can be costly.

The British independent schools offer a curricula based on the education received in the UK, including “O” level examinations, determining a student’s option for further education.

The American plan of education follows a child from Kindergarten through to grade 12, while the International Baccalaureate program is a challenging path for university entrance.

Higher education takes the form of university as well as technical and vocational schools, and many upper level schools are available throughout Thailand.
