BRINGING HOUSEHOLD
GOODS INTO THAILAND

Bringing your personal effects into Thailand is not difficult but it is highly recommended that you use a professional shipper.  Remember, you probably do not read, speak, write or understand the Thai language and there will be many papers to sign upon receipt of your goods.

If you have an approved work permit you can bring in one shipment of personal goods duty free and tax free.  If you are on a long-stay, retirement “O” Visa, you will have to pay customs and tax.

Electrical products need 220 current to run, meaning that Europeans will be in luck but not those from the U.S.  However, only one appliance of each kind is allowed into Thailand free of tax.

Thai customs may try to tack on additional charges for your shipment once it is on its way.  Negotiate.  This is why it is important to use a shipper who has had experience bringing items through customs and into the country.

It is suggested that you only bring the essentials from your home country.  Purchasing households goods in Thailand will be less costly and far less of a hassle than transporting your pots and pans around the world.
