(CELL) MOBILE PHONE:

Mobile telephone service varies and its service is spotty and inconsistent.  Your best chance of success is to purchase a SIM card while in Thailand and use it for all your calls.

If you are using a land line, just know that the calls FROM Thailand to your own country will be pricey.

INTERNET:

Internet cafes are throughout Thailand, in big cities and small villages.  Their connection fees are very low.

If you are planning to live in Thailand, then you will need to order your internet connection.  This is where it gets complicated.  You need a telephone line first.  And to get a telephone line, you need to be a Thai.  If you are renting, you must get permission from your landlord to have a line connected to the residence, and the landlord must order it.  None of this is expensive, but the procedure must be followed in order to be successful.

Our suggestion is to locate where you want to live.  THEN look at your local options for internet service.  There is no sense in learning all the different services if your locale doesn’t offer them.

CABLE TELEVISION:

The main cable provider is True.  They also are one of the two companies providing telephone service.  The service isn’t exactly “cable” but a satellite dish that is attached to either your condo/apartment building or house.  It is easier for a foreigner to get cable television service than it is to order a telephone.

Several channels on True offer English language programming, including most of the popular channels like Discovery, Animal Planet and History Channel.
