WORKING IN MEXICO

RESEARCH FOR WHEN YOU FIRST Working overseas can be done on the internet. This seems to be the best option for generating an income. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are, you can produce income via the internet. Bring your laptop with you when you first travel to Mexico and investigate the different options and technologies available to you. Jobs in Mexico are scarce. An FMT or an FM-3 visa will not permit you to work and receive wages from a Mexican company. You will need an FM-2 visa for that. However, an FM-3 visa will allow you to set up your own business in Mexico.
TRAVEL TO MEXICO:
Working abroad, whether it's in Mexico or another country, CAN be done, but it will will require some pre-planning.
If you are hired by a company within Mexico and transferred to Mexico, the company will take care of the paperwork and you will have the right to work abroad.
If you are hired while living in Mexico you’ll need your Mexican employer to provide you with the paperwork for permission, and there are fees involved.
If a school hires you, be sure they do the paperwork. Do not accept work from anyone who wants to hire you but refuses to gain permission for you to work with their company. You will risk deportation.
If you wish to teach, you will need a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate.
Opening and operating your own business while living in Mexico is not difficult, but must be done under the appropriate visa – FM-3 or FM-2. Your first stop is at the office of a qualified accountant who will walk you through most of the paperwork, and will do a lot of the work for you. While speaking Spanish isn’t necessary, learning it is suggested if you expect to navigate the governmental system effectively.
